Remote Monitoring on “Tugnology´17 Conference”

Having gained the experience of developing and designing a high speed engine, which combines the latest technologies along with considerable MAN experience, the MAN 175D high speed team was invited to the Tugnology ‘17 conference, which took place in Rotterdam at the World Trade Centre from 23rd to 24th of May, in order to present a paper about remote monitoring.

Being organized by the ABR Company Ltd. every second year, Tugnology is the conference which concentrates on current issues and advancements specifically within the tugboat industry. During the event many industry experts assemble in order to present and listen to technical and innovative papers about such topics as performance optimization, fuel efficiency and tugboat safety.

Matthias Schlipf, project manager of the MAN 175D and Mark Watson, sales & sales support engineer, were invited to the 10th anniversary of Tugnology to present their paper on the subject of remote monitoring. The paper was an in depth study which considered the motivation to make effective use of the available “big data”, how it is used in the marine sector today, approaches to remote monitoring by other industries and a future outlook of the move towards digitization in the tugboat sector. The presentation and paper were well received by all the delegates, encouraging detailed discussions about this aspect of the technological future of the tugboat industry.
